I feel very lucky to have lived in the Bozeman area for the past 17 years. Honestly, I really cant imagine living anywhere else. My love for this area, and the Bridger Mountains in particular, began the first time I drove up the canyon to ski at Bridger Bowl in December 1989. There is just something special about those mountains. In the years that have followed, Ive spent countless hours in the Bridgers; either skiing, hiking, biking or shooting photos.|
I grew up in the Black Hills, near Rapid City, SD. Most of my free time as a kid was spent in the outdoors. In the winter, we would go skiing at Terry Peak every weekend and take annual family ski trips out west. The summers were filled with all sorts of adventures, from dirt biking to water skiing and camping. After graduating from Stevens High School, the Rocky Mountains were calling me. I decided to attend MSU and major in business with an emphasis on skiing. Thats where the love affair with Montana and the Bridgers began.
During the past few years, I have focused much of my attention to a project of capturing panorama images of the mountains around Bozeman at various times and places. My goal has been to create a series of photographs that speak to the people who spend time here and love this area and its visual splendor, as I do. I believe the panoramic style captures a feeling not typically possible with standard photography, and I make a conscious effort to create photos that are accurate depictions of the times and places that I photograph. The dramatic colors that are seen at special times on the right day are what I search for, it has actually become a bit of an addiction. I spend hours and hours scouring the valley for the next great spot and often go back to my favorite spots several times before getting lucky enough to be there when the light is extraordinary. The results have proven to be very rewarding.
I hope you see something you like or something that inspires you to get out and go on your own adventure.
